Double amputee Nadya Vessey will soon be able to swim like a mermaid with a specially-made tail that will let her propel herself through the water.
The keen swimmer is to be fitted with the “mermaid-style” tail made by the same special effects team behind blockbuster Lord of the Rings and King Kong.
Nadya was born with a condition that meant her legs would never develop properly, but despite having her first leg amputated at the age of seven has has continued swimming throughout her life.
The tail will be moulded on to a pair of wetsuit shorts to make it easy to put on and take off. Nadya says it will allow her to propel herself through the water with an undulating movement as if she was a mermaid.
“I’m thinking I’ll power on a bit with it, so that will be great.” she told New Zealand’s Sunday Star Times. Nadya says she’s even thinking of completing the swimming section of a triathlon using her new tail.
Work on the new tail will begin at the start of next year and Nadya has told the special effects team that she wants the finished tail to be both “beautiful and practical”.
“I began to feel a bit embarrassed about it. But then everybody else got so excited so I thought, ‘Oh, I’ll just go with it and see what happens’.”
“So I really have no idea what to expect but it’s going to be fun.”

Mermaids are real, even if they are pretty or ugly. I don’t care about the amount of people who dress up and pose to a camera to prove that mermaids are real. That’s not how it works. Just to let you know you don’t have to see a mermaid in order to know that they are real! My cousin and I have always believed that someday there will be a BIG discovery about mermaids and so we’re just waiting patiently. Anyway, you can make your own tail or fin, whatever, with cloth and some nice sewing skills and some plastic for the bottom flippers. You need the main powers to be a mermaid. My cousin has 5 and she has moving water/shaping, heating, freezing. they are the main powers and she has 2 more which are homaphone and she can make anyboy forgets things and make them do anything she wants. the 5th one is the best power to get. I became a mermaid when I was only six. I dont remember fully but i do remember falling into the water on a windy day. Ever since I have lived under water…. I got saved by something… Anyways a few years later we were able to leave and live a human life and go back to the ocean.

hi i live in the virgin islands, st thomas (a place with more water than anything else) my mum and i was at a carrot bay condominum. i was 11 then. i was sitting on the front porch by the pool looking at the fabulous V.I ocean with two ratweilers sleeping at my feet. i looked up when i heard a big splash at the shore but i didnt see anything. the dogs heard it too because they started barking like crazy. i wasnt sure what i was looking for but i kept my eyes on the water… then suddenly i saw a fish-like person swimming away… i believe in mermaids… but even for me that was kinda strange… you never really believe in something until you’ve seen it with your own eyes.. hey ppl it been a while im back i spraied my ankle and i cant go in the water for 2 months wat am i gonna do helpok so when i turne d 18 something happedned ok my tail was a sparlking blue but now its orange with lime green fin if u were a real mrmaid u would know that we have no shirts its just our hair ny bf died in a car crash the day after my b day maybe thats waht happened well the night after my birthday i went back to the place where i transformed and wished i could take away being a mermaid but u no wat ……fail i still am i was crying because i was caught but some litter in the ocean and couldnt make it to his funeral i am so regreting this right now

I became a mermaid today! I have a purple bikini top and a aqua tail. I said this spell to become a mermaid:

To do this spell you have to wear your favorite necklace and take a shower or a bath. Near the end of your shower or bath say the spell SLOWLY. Dry off and the next time you touch water you should be a mermaid (or merman)! Okay. Now, after I said this spell, I dried off and ran my hand in sink water.I closed my eyes, counted to ten, waited a few seconds and I fell down. I opened my eyes and had a tail! It was so cool! And I also have Emma and Rikki’s powers.
Go into a shower, put your favourite necklace on and then close your eyes and say this spell slowly:
