Because not everyone can afford a helicopter and photographer to get hero shots of themselves!
UPDATE: Since posting, I’ve figured out that this footage is from Chris Humann, sailing his Dana 24 Carroll E. He had a “DNF” (did not finish) in the 2005 Longpac, but completed the 2006 Singlehanded Transpac with a respectable corrected time.

Oh yeah!
he’s my next-slip neighbor, a very very good guy. On the SHTP, he actually spent 3 days sailing with bare poles to slow down enough to be of assistance to a fellow competitor who had lost his rudder and whose backup didn’t work. Turned out the guy was able to sail into port without a rudder and Chris got redress but I think he would have had a faster time than he was given credit for.
Carroll E might be the only boat that Lady Bug is faster than but I can never compete on looks or quality of rigging.
And I should have noted, almost all the entries of the 2005 Longpac DNF’d. He sounds like a great sailor, and a great sportsman.
