Lurking off Mexico’s eastern shore in the Sea of Cortez, these flap-jack-like creatures burst out of the water with graceful precision.
Soaring as high as two metres above the plankton-rich green water, mobula rays are a sight to behold.
Here in the Sea of Cortez four species of mobulas (tarapacana, thurstoni, munkiana, and japanica) occupy the waters along with the giant manta ray.
The Texas 200 is a raid-style race over a 200 mile route to be held for the first time next year, June 9 - 13, 2008. Chuck Leinweber, owner of Duckworks, is a principal organizer, but resists being solely in charge. He was recently interviewed on FurledSails.com.
I would love to see Raid California get off the ground like this!

3000 miles across the Atlantic by human power
Greg is going to pedal his human powered boat ‘WiTHiN’ 3000 miles across the Atlantic ocean and attempt to break the trans Atlantic rowing record of 43 days. The Pedal The Ocean expedition will be raising money to fund Greg’s “KidPower” school program - a national education program focused on developing young children into healthy, active and positive people.
This innovative pedal boat with retracting outriggers is now undergoing trials and final fit-out. The voyage is planned for Winter 2008.

Flashback from July 30.
As the nights cooled more and more as we went south but the water temp stayed warm, we started to have river fog for an hour or two every morning, not to mention a hell of a lot of condensation inside our boat tent which would drip on us during the night unless I lay on my back and used a towel at 2 am and 6 am to wipe it off! You can see Connie emerging from the boat tent in this photo; a great alternative to taking everything off the boat and camping on shore.

Biologists and villagers in a remote corner of the Amazon rainforest were searching for a 12-tonne whale yesterday that had reportedly lost its way and become stranded 1,000 miles from the ocean.
The five-metre long (18ft) creature, which biologists said was probably a minke whale, became stranded on a beach on the Tapajos river, 39 miles from the city of Santarem. Environmental experts said the whale had probably become separated from its group in the Atlantic Ocean, off northern Brazil, after falling ill or being hit by a boat.
A ship that sank 400 years ago has been found virtually intact at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
